Challenge: Best MB & CPU Combo for $75 or less!

Have an ATI Radeon 8500 AGP video card, SB Live sound card, and a bunch of 168 pin DIMM memory. The PC is really used almost exclusively for web surfing and a little picture editing. Need to upgrade MB and CPU. One or the other is bad, but it's not worth figuring out which one.

The challenge is to find the best inexpensive MB & CPU combo to keep using the other parts.

Suggestions?

Memory is so cheap ($40 for 512 megs of pc3200 at Best Buy) you should go ahead and replace it. It would give you a much better selection of boards to choose from. You don't even list your processor.

You're right, but the memory recommendation is still a good one. Only place that might meet your needs is Fry's electronics. They've had combo deals for $75 or less for semprons. And this would require the memory upgrade. Fry's no longer sells any sdram boards that I know of.

I agree that memory is cheap these days, but I was hoping to keep the price down. Assuming I would go for 512 MB of pc3200, what would people recommend for an inexpensive board + cpu?

Thanks, Falloutboy. I will keep my eyes open for Fry's. If anyone else knows of any decent combo deals going on now, please let me know.

Good suggestions, lyssword. Some of the mainboards even have onboard video.

lyssword - I really appreciate those suggestions. Do you have a favorite among those boards?
