Chaintech ZNF3-250 & 9800 Pro crashing...

Okay, here's the deal. I play any video game utilizing Direct X 9 (so far no problems in Starcraft...), and the PC will at some point, crash.

Sometimes it's a BSOD -- I don't get an error message, just goes blue.
Sometimes I get a CTD with some errors in a box; some of these are detailed on game forums, like America's Army "No Label" crash.

I am not sure if it's just the games I'm playing that are buggy, or whether it's my setup. I've emailed Chaintech about this but I've not yet got a reply. Additionally incase you should ask, my CPU/Case temps are fine, all drivers are up to date, and any of the 'stupid' questions, I've probably already addressed (but feel free to ask them).

I'd appreciate if anybody can give me any info with regard to this board & video card, or whether it's a game issue (I play Hitman Contracts, which usually CTD or blue screens, UT2004/America's Army which usually CTD with an error message).

Thanks for any help you can give.

I doubt it is your VC, but to be sure try switching it out with another one. What are your system's specs? What kind os PSU do you have?

I have an Antec TruePower 430w, running :

AMD64 3000+ on a Chaintech VNF3-250 Motherboard
2x512 Kingston Hyper-X PC4000 RAM (not OCed)
ATI 9800 Pro 128MB Video Card
Lite-On DVD+-RW
SB Audigy X-Gamer
2x160GB Seagate 7200RPM 8MB Buffer Hard Drives in RAID 0

That's about it..

Do you have an old video card that you can test on? Just to see if it's the VC that's having conflict? Good luck in resolving that issue man.

hhhmm... I hear that the vnf3-250 has problems with RAID, could that be it? Also, have you tried the beta bios for the mobo? I too have almost the same exact system in the mail and hope I won't be afflicted with the same problem.

how about testing:

cpu
memory
mobo
video card (something else if 9800pro doesn't still work)
and floppy only

from there update the bios then try the 9800pro?

Good luck

Did you do a clean install of windows when you upgraded the video card/system? Makes ALL the difference.

To those of you interested, since some of you are getting similarly spec'ed out systems... I fixed my problem. It was the RAM. The Kingston Hyper-X PC4000 doesn't seem to like my motherboard and I kept crashing due to that. However, now having played video games all morning and afternoon (hahahahaha) I can say that replacing the RAM with something better (I used Crucial with CL2.5 instead of the 3.0 from Kingston) will do wonders for your system.

Good luck to you all!

Did you test one stick at a time?? Perhaps it was just a bad stick. I hope so, b/c I have 2 of those sitting at home waiting for my new pc :(

Yes, I tested both sticks with Memtest and didn't get any errors... but ever since I replaced the sticks I haven't had any headaches.

Maybe it will work without a hitch for you, and I hope that it does -- but be prepared to replace them with different sticks. You can probably use the FS/FT forums to get somebody to swap you.
