My computer recently froze on me for the first time after weeks of running great. It froze one day, which worried me, but didnt cause me to trouble shoot it. Then, the next day, it froze on me completely and now gives me one long 3 second beep about 8-10 seconds after the computer turns on and displays "2D" then seems to reboot and go into BIOS and the post codes just start counting up to 50 and then it seems frozen. I cant get into BIOS settings at this or any point.

I checked around to see what 1 long 3 second beep might mean, and it was pretty unclear. Since Award says that basically anthing except for the specific beep codes for video card problems are most likely RAM related, i proceeded to check my RAM out by swaping in some older ddr333 ram. That gives me the exact same beep. Also, just for kicks, i tried different ddr slot combos on the mobo. But that continues to give me a long 3 second beep.

Also, i didnt think that it was a video card problem since i could see the bios pop up, try to boot the comp and then freeze.

I did find, however, that if i leave the ram in and take out the video card, i get no beep code. Of course then i have no information on what the bios is doing, but i also get no beep code.

Im on my way to a friends house to check out what putting in another PCI-E card will do for me.

But so far, my best guess is that 1 long 3 second beep seems to be a video card problem.

Any other info on beep codes and help in general would be greatly appreciated.

** UPDATE **

So i turned off my whole comp and took it apart and drove 20 mins to my friends house to try plugging in his 6800 pci-e card and sure enough that fixed the problem! Then, curiously enough, when i put my card back in to go home i turned the card on one last time to show him the beep error i was getting and there was NO ERROR!!! My computer booted up just find to windows.

I am absolutely sure that i had the video card properly seated since i had taken it in and out multiple times while trouble shooting my comp. This leads me to believe that the act of turning off the PSU for a long period of time must have allowed something on the mobo to be reset.

Still, that darn beep code that i was getting in the begining was not documented well and didnt give me much info.

Anybody else come across any beep codes?

Do you guys think that that was a video card beep code after all?
