I have a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra and a 160GB Seagate SATA.

I have read that for a non-RAID array system like mine (one drive), you don't need to install the SATA drivers from the CD that comes with the Chaintech mobo.

But just to be safe, I attempted to install them anyway.

I followed the procedrues on Page 50 of the Chaintech manual exactly and verified that the files copied from the CD to the floppy.

But after I perform step 6 "choose the nvRAID driver (required)", the windows text set up screen gives me a "nvRAID.sys file not found" message.

I also get a similar message after performing set 7 (choosing the other required file).

Is this suppose to happen? Is this suppose to happen? I wouldn't think so, but with Windows, you never know (BTW, I'm attempting to install Windows XP Home).

I've got an email into Chaintech about this, but no response thus far.

Has anyone successfully peformed the procedures on Page 50 of the manual and installed those drivers?

If so, can you please let me know if you got similar message or what response windows gave you after installing the drivers.

Thanks!

I've done this with other drivers on win2000 server

You need to make sure all the driver files are on the floppy. I think the most important thing is having the inf file in the root and make sure that whatever files it points to are in the proper directories.

Last time I did this was a few years ago. Kudos for HP Smartstart

I figured out what the problem was....for some reason some the required files to be copied were hidden in the folder....don't know why.

But when I copied them over, and then did the F6 all went as planned.

Chaintech should really provide a list of the filenames to be copied, just so users are exactly sure they have all the files needed to ensure the driver install works.

But that's wishful thinking......
