Chaintech VNF4 owners: Recommend stable, affordable CAS 2.5 or better (AT STOCK SETTINGS) PC3200 DDR400 RAM

Looking for nice quality PC3200 to put on a VNF4 Chaintech board - Chaintech owners, what are you using?

2x512MB or 2x1GB sticks.

Have NO interest in messing with timings/settings - want something that is RATED at good latency numbers and CAS 2.5 or better so that it will run such timing stock without messing with BIOS settings.

Preferably a dual-channel matched pair from a reputable brand!

If there is something available that meets those needs but costs a lot less than OCZ EL Platinum Rev2 2x512MB sticks ($175 at NewEgg), I could go with 2x1GB sticks which would be nice. 🙂

Thanks.

Well I'd heard of issues with it and the DFI LanParty boards so I wasn't sure if it was stable with other NF4 Ultra boards or not.

Also can I run 4x512MB in a dualchannel setup? Do you think that will be stable or would that be unlikely? I wonder if they sell 1GB DIMMs...

The DFI is just a picky board. Doesn't really like any value RAM, but that is not because of the chipset.
If you plan to go 2 GB, then get 2X1 GB. Corsair has a 1 GB stick value series for ~$80, but it is CAS 3.

Hmm, don't know but that would be very nice if it does.

Funny, I don't think any of you who've posted so far own Chaintech VNF4s (judging by your sig specs). :-/

Everyone here stresses VS problems with mobos. Heck I just built a DFI NF4 ultra system two days ago with VS and it went together flawlessly the first time I booted it up.

Your chaintech will be fine, ive heard and seen many people use it with VS

YEP!, ok i loaded up the ram and the motherboard. the ram set itself to 2.5-3-4-8 2T when i first booted up (this is the corsair value ram). everything went smooth. i went ahead and loaded windows and installed cpu-z 1.29 and it had SPD for the ram at 2.5-3-3-8. I went ahead into the bios and changed it to 2.5-3-3-8 at 1T. everything was still smooth.

i played with overclocking a lil also... i set a 166 divider, bumped CPU voltage up to 1.475 and bumped FSB to 230. left ram settings alone. smooth as silk.. ran prime95 for 10hours+ with no problems.. im sure i can go higher too.. that is just a mild overclock.. i didnt even try going higher.

if people are looking for a cheap setup, they shouldnt overlook the chaintech + corsair value ram combo. alot of people are buying expensive motherboards and expensive ram and getting just a lil increase in performance.

Huh, that's really good to hear. Thanks for the update.

Btw, where do I download CPU-Z from?

ps - time to update your sig I think 😉
