Chaintech VNF4 memory slot question...

Alright, my current mobo is one I bought about 2 years ago.
I just bought on newegg a X2 4200+ manchester for 60 bucks, upgrading from a XP 3500+ venice.

I bought the mobo along with 1 gig (2x512) of dual-channel corsair XMS ram.

Well I'm a pretty heavy gamer and 1 gig just needs to go. Problem is I dont want to buy 2x1gb sticks. I believe I've read in the past this mobo doesn't like all 4 slots filled.

I'd much rather just buy another 2x512 and save about 50 bucks.

Anyone have any information on what to do would be helpful.

its not the motherboard, its the cpu.
the memory controller is part of the cpu on athlons. X2s had better memory tolerance than single cores..

that said, it will probably work. there were some issues where say you could not run the tightest timings with more sticks, but its not a huge impact.

i had that board back in the day btw. decent board, its exactly the same as the bfg brand one.

Awesome, thanks hans.

I read that just this week aswell. I kinda had that assumption that an X2 would handle it better.

But I always like to get more opinions. Thanks
