I installed 2 x 512MB 3200 doubled sided sticks in module slots 1 and 2. My internal system BUS frequency reads 333MHz when POSTing. How can I change it 400 MHz? Is it something I need to change in the BIOS or is it a jumper on the motherboard? I'm thinking it's a jumper on the motherboard, but I don't know which jumper it would be. There are so many, and the documentation that came with the motherboard is so piss poor. Can someone help me out?

Thnanks!:)

You just have to go into your bios and set the ram to run at a 1:1 divider, which will either be shown as 1:1, 200mhz, or DDR400.

The board I got today does the same thing, nothing to be done about that if you run two sticks of RAM (along with 1T/2T).

I'm pretty sure the rig I built for a guy with 2 x 512MB of Corsiar VS booted up at 200/400mhz.

I've got a call into him now to check.

I actually resolved my problem by moving my second stick of ram from slot 2 to slot 3. Now it's booting at 400Mhz. Thanks!

You're welcome. Glad you got it at 200/400

I wish the guy would check and get back to me confirm he's at 400mhz too. But I'm pretty sure I loaded Everest Home Edition ( and other bench proggies) on there to check it before I released the build.

Can't remember which slots I put the ram chips in. Prolly wherever the manual suggested. But he's got that of course :(

Maybe Zap will check back and get his running right too

Thanks for posting back with the good news

I mailed my Sempron CPU today so I can't check. I'm supposedly cross-shipping with a guy and he didn't ship out today - indeed can't even get a hold of him. :|

Once I do have a CPU to power the thing up again, I'll try changing RAM to skip the middle slot. I currently have it running in the two farthest from CPU.

fibes, does your RAM run at 1T or 2T?

Thanks fibes. Even with no CPU I already have the RAM inserted in slots 1 and 3. :D BTW, what BIOS version are you using? Also, which core are you using? I think the newest Sempron 64 cores may have a better memory controller than the older cores.

i couldn't get 2 sticks to boot over 333 in any slots... to get the mem up to 200ish oc the ht... i ended up setting the mult down and upping the ht to 240ish... good trick having to oc the thing to get to stock speed... at least it runs at 1t...

NP Zap, I have not flashed the BIOS on my mobo yet. I believe the date is from 10/04. It seems to be working fine at the moment, so I don't plan to flash until I find another issue.

I have an AMD64 2800+ Clawhammer.

UPDATE:

Finally got the other CPU - about freekin' time... A64 3400+ Newcastle 2.4GHz. Verified that if left to "auto" and two 512MB in slots 1 and 3, will boot with DDR400 1T.

EDIT: Forgot to add that on initial POST the RAM is detected at DDR400 2T, then a reboot will detect as DDR400 1T. There is no "manual" setting for DDR400 in BIOS, only 100/133/166.

Also, lower multipliers work unlike the Sempron 3100+ (original). Supposedly newer core Palermo 3000+ and higher have CnQ, but the older one sure doesn't.

I tried my "budget eb@y" RAM, 1GB high density stuff, only detects at 512MB. Oh well, I'll stick to using it on my SiS chipset boards for now. Wonder if it is the chipset (traditionally) or the CPU (with the memory controller).

Which bios are you using?? I had an older bios once that would show half the ram.
I am also insterested in that Eb@y ram, so if you get it to work on the VNF3 Please let us know!

And thank you for being the guinea pig :p

Oh,and there is another BETA Bios Out

I think BIOS is dated last year - the next to newest official on their site.

I think you're out of luck with the Ebay RAM. It works fine with memory controllers that support it, such as ones on various VIA and SiS chipset boards. With A64, the CPU's memory controller doesn't seem compatible. Still, a great deal on a GB of RAM for about $60 shipped - will be used on my Asus P4S800-MX and mobile Celeron.

If you set it to auto, the memory should run @ 200.
I use 2x512mb corsair vs on slot 1 and 2 @ 2T

I have one corsair vs that runs 250mhz on slot 1 alone - memtest passed 25hrs
The same memory module inserted into slot 2 alone- memtest fails
the same memoery module inserted into slot 3 alone - doesn't boot (beeps forever every 5 seconds or so and I have to clear cmos)

Are you guys having instablility with different slots? Is this normal? I wanted to run 1gb on any slots @ 250 but it seems like I won't be able to.

I also have a corsair vs 512mb module that doesn't do 1T (by itself it should work but doesn't) ... you guys think this chip is defective?

If someone could test this out and let me know ... i'd really appreciate it

Thanks!
