Hey everyone. I'm currently working on building my second computer. The motherboard I've got is a Chaintech VNF3-250 and, unfortunatly, the manual seems to be a little skimpy. I'm concerned about hooking up the power and reset switches because the pin diagram for CN1A, the front panel connector, doesn't indicate which pin is for power and which is for ground. Does anyone know which is which? Will anything bad happen if I hook them up backwards or will the switches just not work? Thanks for any help!

The switches don't have a power and ground. When you push the button, it simply makes an electrical connection so the power can go whichever way it feels like going. So you're on the right track, nothing bad will happen no matter which way you put them. :cool:

For the LEDs that indicate Power On and HDD activity, nothing bad will happen if you plug them in backwards, but because they're diodes, power only flows through them in one direction. So if they are plugged in backwards, they just won't light up. So if your Power LED doesn't light up, flip its pluglet over and that's fixed. Ditto for the HDD LED if it doesn't light when there's IDE hard-drive activity going on.

Keep it up! :)

Ohhh yeah... duh! I probably should have thought through that one a little better before getting all worried. Thanks!

Would anyone happen to know how to attach the front usb cables or front firewire cables to the motherboard? For the usb cables, there are two rows on the motherboard, but my usb cable only has one row. I just connected it to the row with five pins vs. the row with four pins. More importantly, where do I find out how to connect a front firewire port? There's a couple of cables and the manual is crap, I don't know where to connect what.

Update: It doesn't look like there's a firewire set of pins for me to connect to.

* Four 3x1 pin fan connectors
* 5x2 pin USB connector for additional 2 USB ports
* 3x1 pin wake on LAN connector with housing
* 3x1 pin wake on Modem connector with housing
* Two 4x1 pin CD-in connectors with housing on CMC5.1
* 4x1 pin Aux-in connector with housing on CMC5.1
* 9x2 pin front panel connector
* 5x2 pin front side audio connector
* 20 pin ATX Power connector
* 4 pin ATX 12V Power connector

Ugh...

There are 2 usb connectors towards the bottome of the board ... you'll find it if you look around ... the lower half ... i haven't seen a firewire yet ... my front panel firewire cable is just dangling around ...
