chaintech s1689 and memory

Hi, I have a friend that wants to add some memory to her chaintech s1689. It runs dual channel ddr and she has 2x256mb ddr400 pc3200 in it right now. The manual states - "Due to CPU specifications limitation, two DDR400 memory
modules inserted into DIMM1/3, three DDR400 into DIMM1/2/3,
or four DDR400 into DIMM1/2/3/4 is not recommended." - Does this mean she cannot run 4 sticks of ddr400 at the same time? She wanted to just add 2x512 to what she currently has. I have heard about some issues with the athlon 64s and memory but I can't seem to make sense out of the whole thing. Thanks.
 
O.K. I think I finally understand a little bit better about what is going on. I finally found a post with the info I was looking for. So, can someone give me suggestions as to what you would do in this case? She wants to have more memory but She doesn't want to just through out what she has. Any suggestions please?
 
It's not due to "CPU specification limitations" - it's the physical reality of high speed signalling that doesn't let you have two DIMMs per channel at 200 MHz.
The RAM controller and its BIOS will handle four DIMMs - either at degraded timings and still 200 MHz, or at 166 MHz. This is what the DDR standard demands, and it will work plenty fine.
