I have a new Chaintech 7VJL mobo and Athlon XP2100+ in my new system. I installed everything, but when I power up, the fans spin and everything goes for about a second or two before it all stops. SO, I'm wondering what's going on. After much hassle, I've decided that it's most likely 1.) The mobo and cpu aren't compatible. This would REALLY surprise me. But, i checked chaintech's site and it doesn't really say. OR 2.) the mobo came with a hs over the VIA KT333 chipset. HOWEVER, i don't think there is any thermal compound in between the two except maybe a thermal pad. So I'm thinking maybe the chipset is overheating and the mobo is shutting down. Any comments???

What PSU are you using? Check for grounding so you could try booting the board outside of case, also double check all your connections etc,try booting with minimal install of hardware like just video card, cpu, ram and HD.

System specs:

Antec SX1030B w/ 300W Antec p/s
AMD Athlon XP2100+
Chaintech 7VJL mobo
Corsair DDR333 RAM
Gainward GF4 TI4200
Audigy MP3+
Maxtor 80GB hdd
Teac fdd
Lite-On DVD and CD-RW drives

I originally thought maybe it was a p/s problem. The fans, drives, everything just stop. BUT, the LEDs stay on, so I'm not sure it is a p/s problem. So I started thinking maybe it was a fail-safe in the mobo for overheating or something. So I tried changing the fsb jumper from 133 MHz to 100MHz, and it managed to stay on for about 2 seconds longer before shutting down. So that's what made me think it's a heat thing, and that maybe I should double-check the hsf on the cpu and chipset. I haven't taken the mobo out of the case yet, but that's my next step.
