chaintech MB only posts to Verify DMI pool

Hey listers,

have a BIG problem! the pc was fine, and running NT 4. had a power failure and although have a ups, didn't hold up long enough for me to shut down the pc. when I reboot, posts fine, goes to verify the DMI pool, then hangs for days! I've flashed the bios with the latest upgrade I can find, same thing. I can remove cards and reinstall, and when it gets to the DMI section, it tells me that the pool updated ok, etc...then hangs again on verifying DMI pool data. Any ideas?
 
Start simple, pull the power plug and reset the CMOS. Have you tried getting into safe mode?
 
yep, tried pulling the plug, setting the jumpers to clear cmos, can't even get past the verification of DMI pool to get into safe mode. Updated the bios, downgraded bios...all the same thing. At this point, I'm thinking it's the MB as I get the same thing using 3 different HDs with 3 different OSes.
 
Hi I fixed a friends computer that was hanging in the same spot. Turned out his harddrive was dying. But since you've already tried other hard drives I'm not sure what it could be. Could your onboard IDE controller have somehow been damaged. Could you maybe try using a PCI IDE controller card and see if you can boot that way. Hope this helps.
