I have a Chaintech GT21 ti4200 and its easily the loudest component in my machine. Anyone know how loud the fan actually is? I tried unplugging the fan since I dont have the card overclocked and it smelled like an electrical fire after 5 minutes :x

Should I try replacing just the fan? Anyone recommend a quiet 40mm fan?

Should I replace the whole setup? I don't want the passive Zalman heatpipe. Especially after how hot it was witout the fan.

Anyone know how good the vantec iceberg is and how quiet it is?

I'd like to overclock but would rather have it quiet.

Thanks!

Still looking??

Try this Thermaltake drop in replacement. I have the PNY version of this card and the fan is starting to rattle, after only about 6 months. If you have a local CompUSA, they carry this for only $12.99, I was just there!! Be careful which one you grab, they also have their own version of it, same thing just their name, the copper casting looks crappier and it's $30!

Installing should be a breeze, the OEM heatsink is not put on with adhesive, just grease and the pins. I was removing the fancy coverplate to look at the fan, and my pressure tilited the heatsink off the GPU! I think replacing the fan would be more work than it's worth, at least to get one to fit right in the circle. That's the problem, it's circular. I have a parts catalog with many fans in it, they are square. I guess you could get a bigger fan, place it on top, and run the screws into the heatsink, if you don't mind the added height.

(Maybe you should put GF4 in the topic title, I'm sure many people are going to be looking for this, kinda hard to find) ;)
