Hey,
So last weekend I purchased a Chaintech Geforce4 Ti4200 128MB "GT21" Special Edition with VIVO. I was quite curious as to how this card would perform, since there is very few benchmark information available, few reviews, and many people have questioned the perfomance of the gold colored heatsinks. The major selling point was the price: $173 at my local computer show. I should let you know that I am no stranger to Chaintech components, having previously owned a Geforce4 MX440 and Geforce3 Ti200 built by them. In both cases, I was quite impressed with the performance of the hardware. At default clock settings, both cards seemed to be on par with the performance of the same card made by Leadtek, etc. My only complaint was a driver incompatibility issue with the bundled drivers on the G4MX, but downloading the newer Nvidia Det's fixed the problem.
Anyway, I went into the installation hoping merely to be able to overclock the card memory to 500MHZ to lessen the gap between the 64MB models. As it turns out, the performance of this card is quite IMPRESSIVE! I am still stunned at the overclockability of this card! I recommend anyone who is thinking about getting a Ti4200 to seriously consider this card.
SETUP:
P4 1.6A Northwood Costa Rica @ 2528GHZ (158MHZ FSB)
Asus P4B533-E
2 256MB Samsung PC2700
Chaintech Geforce4 Ti4200 128MB "GT21" Special Edition VIVO
3DMARK 2001 SE RESULTS: (using Nivida Detonator 29.42 and WinXP Pro)
Clock Speed: 320/620MHZ (stock is 250/444) at 1024x768x32 using default 3DMARK settings and default video card settings
Score: 11,282 3DMark points
I preformed 3dMark burn-in last night with no crashes, and no signs whatsoever of aliasing or even a single pixel misplaced. If everything remains stable for the next few days, I'll try to up the clock some more and see how high I can get it before problems start. I may also try to overclock the AGP bus and oc the system a bit more..wish me luck guys!
