Chaintech CT-WIV

I want to upgrade the cpu on a Chaintech CT-WIV motherboard.

-100mhz bus
-supports 3.3v
-current cpu Intel 400mhz celeron

I think the motherboard should be able to cope with a 800/850 socket370 100mhz Celeron or Pentium III.

Can anybody confirm? Thanks.

Probably won't do over 533 w/ the Celeron. All above that are Coppermine CPUs which aren't pin compatible with most old boards.

If it's a slot motherboard, then you can use the slocket's that have independant voltage adjustments to widen your possibilities...

Well, if it only supports 3.3v, how canit support Coppermines? If it's adjustable, you have a wide range of choices. the BX isn't so old. It's used in the FASTEST non-Tualatin PIII laptops today! (1Ghz)

Thanks ... you've answered my question. Was not aware of the voltage requirements. I'm stuck with 3.3v ... so the motherboard is going to get binned.

Just spotted this in Tom's hardware ...

http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000728/celeron-01.html

I believe I have a Mendocino Core and this runs at 2.0v ... and coppermine requires 1.7v. Close enough I think.

However, the article states that the Mendocino Core is PPGA-370 whereas Coppermine is FCPGA-370

... whats the difference ? Can a socket370 be both PPGA and FCPGA compatible?

The chaintech manual is sh*t ... and I don't trust it's contents (even though it states coppermine compatibility).

Cheers
