Chaintech AV-710 in digital mode

Hey all:

Who here has the Chaintech AV-710 or Gainward Hollywood card in 24bit digital mode via SPDIF to an external DAC?

I intend to hook my Chaintech up to a Denon 1705 via toslink, and have a couple of niggling questions:

1. The QSound option found in the 442a driver set--does this have any effect on the digital output, and if so, would it collide with the intelligent upmix and downmix of the Denon receiver?
2. Doesn't QSound give 3D apps a 3D sound API to write to (Sensaura, EAX, etc) so that when playing something in 5.1, it is necessary to enable this option...or will the Denon handle where the sounds go?

In other words, I am confused as to which device is actually going to do the upmix and downmix here. I know that the Denon will intelligently decode 5.1 signals, and direct the sounds to the right speakers, but without QSound enabled, how would it do this? Would I be better off disabling the upmix and downmix in the external DAC and let QSound figure out what signal should go where?

Help....

Have you looked at this page

You might try asking here if no one here knows.

Hey ribbon, oh sure, go ahead and poke fun :)

Yeah, I have looked again and again at the well done *marketing* that VIA has put together, which is heavy on marketing and light on actual real useful info. The VIAARENA forums are a total joke. I don't think anyone at VIA actually looks at them. I have sent several hate mails directly to VIA and am awaiting a response. I asked such pointed questions as:

1. Why has VIA decided NOT to properly document their driver sets?
2. Why is VIA allowing a lot of negative feedback to accumulate on their forums without stepping in and helping....?

I hopefully can get a fire lit under someone at VIA (good luck, I know) to get them to actually write something useful about their product known as the Envy24HT APU. We will see. I reposted my question again over there on the audio forum, this time with direct questions instead of asking about documentation that is apparently no where to be found.

When all is said and done, I myself will write up something on the VIA drivers and post it here hopefully with a MOD making it a sticky. If anyone here wants to help by reviewing my materials prior to "publication", then please speak up. I should then go back and charge VIA or something. Bastards.
