Hey all:
Who here has the Chaintech AV-710 or Gainward Hollywood card in 24bit digital mode via SPDIF to an external DAC?
I intend to hook my Chaintech up to a Denon 1705 via toslink, and have a couple of niggling questions:
1. The QSound option found in the 442a driver set--does this have any effect on the digital output, and if so, would it collide with the intelligent upmix and downmix of the Denon receiver?
2. Doesn't QSound give 3D apps a 3D sound API to write to (Sensaura, EAX, etc) so that when playing something in 5.1, it is necessary to enable this option...or will the Denon handle where the sounds go?
In other words, I am confused as to which device is actually going to do the upmix and downmix here. I know that the Denon will intelligently decode 5.1 signals, and direct the sounds to the right speakers, but without QSound enabled, how would it do this? Would I be better off disabling the upmix and downmix in the external DAC and let QSound figure out what signal should go where?
Help....
