i'm planning to buy a chaintech 6800nu. their AA6800 model looks really nice. here's the page at chaintech's website.

newegg is selling a card called the AA6800B1 here.

the pic at chaintech's website shows a card with a full-size, somewhat standard-looking cooling setup. the pics at newegg show a card with a small cooler on the gpu and nothing on the ram. according to one of the customer reviews on the newegg page, the pics are incorrect. another customer wrote something about a "gimpy cooler." i wrote newegg and asked them about it, but haven't yet received a reply.

i was wondering if anyone here has bought one of these cards from newegg, and if so, what kind of cooling setup did it have? does it have the same core/ram speeds advertised at the chaintech site?

chaintech doesn't have anything about the B1 model at their site, and i'm wondering if it could be an older model with standard clock settings and 2.8ns ram (the AA6800 is supposed to have 2.2ns chips). should i just forget the one at newegg and get this card from zipzoomfly for a few bucks more instead?

word of warning if you intend on OC'ing that vid card... it doesn't OC so well... I'd say go with the ZIP ZOOM FLY one. It's heatsink lights up blue :)

yeah, i've been reading that here and there. i would have thought that if it had 2.2ns chips that they should be able to easily reach 900mhz, maybe a little further. seems a lot of people are getting about 800mhz tops, if they're lucky. the 2.2ns memory is the reason i was interested in this card. it's the only standard 6800 i can find with faster chips for under $300 USD. is chaintech under-volting the ram to keep it from reaching its full potential?

I would think so but not sure. Just remember that most cards that come PREoverclocked won't overclock well.
