In the past my dad has been loyal to Stihl. Reviews on epinions.com look good for them. I'd go with that. But, hopefully someone with more experience can recommend something.

I finally managed to kill the family chainsaw (that's so old nobody knows what brand it was) last year. A GIGANTIC beast it was, could easily cut through anything. Post-mortem on the motor revealed that some bearings actually disintegrated, and a bit of one got loose into the cylinder and jammed it hard.

Bought a commercial grade Stihl to replace it. It's like God's chainsaw. Not quite as powerful as the older one, but WAY lighter.

You really can't beat Stihl, but you're going to pay.

another vote here for Stihl. i own 2 of them and they are incredible. the price you pay is not much more than anything else, but it is by far worth it and justified by what you get for the money. they are dependable and powerful, while being very light and safe as well. you wont regret getting a stihl.
