I buy and sell stuff on the side and here sometimes it is lawn equipment. My personal chainsaw is a Stihl MS250 and my trimmer is a Husqvarna 322L. I also have a Husqvarna 450 and Husqvarna 455 chainsaw, Echo SRM230 and Stihl FS250R stimmer for sale. I know the Stihl and Echo trimmer is more professional than my 322L so I am wondering if it would even be worth it to use one of the others as my personal instead. I dont use a weedeater but a few times a year, I did just try out the Stihl and man it has some serious power! As far as chainsaws, it is the same. I use one a few times a year, the 450 has the same size bar as my Stihl(18") and the 455 has a 24".

Which chainsaw and trimmer should I keep?

Depends on what you use your chain saw for. On the chainsaw, 24 inch bar is pretty serious length and will tire you out quickly if you are just cutting firewood. Now if you are felling large trees primarily, then keep it. I have a Husqvarna 455 and love it. Between Stihl and Husqvarna, you cant go wrong so pick the one you like the most using. I also have a Stihl KM 131 kombi system that permits swap-out of different attachments and its plenty powerful for string trimming and I can attach a saw blade to it for brush cutting.

If you only need them a couple of times a year take a long, hard look at the battery-powered models. They've made a lot of progress in the last couple of years. No headaches about mixing gas, adjusting/cleaning carbs, rotten fuel lines, etc. Echo has a nice line, so do Husqvarna and Makita.

For the price you pay for a quality battery product you reference, might as well keep the existing gas units.

I needed a chainsaw for my property but battery powered units simply do not last for my needs. Gas saws were more than I was willing to part with so I bought an electric and can move two hundred feet from the outlet as I have heavy gauge cord. Beyond that a gas unit.

I bought a Homelite gas saw on Craigslist for $60 and it was practically new. Works for me!
