"Chain Key" MACs' equivalent to Administrator Password

Chain Key. Very much like Windows when your asked for the Administrator Password.

This MAC, a G3-400MHz-Power Mac, was bought used and we do not know how to get-around the Password that the Previous Owner set-up.

Clear CMOS ? I've heard that's a trick w/ Windows, but were clueless with this MAC

If someone does know a way to Bypass the Password, could you please provide "detailed" instructions.

Thank you for your time.

What's the exact problem?

a) Mac won't boot and asks for a password at startup

b) Mac boots but asks for a password when you're trying to change system settings, install programs, ...

When a) is the problem, there's only one official way (didn't search for others):

1. Insert Mac OS X Installation CD 1 in the CD drive
2. Restart the Mac and hold down the C key during the boot process, until you see the circulating symbol
3. When the installation program opens, chose Instalation Program > Reset Passwords
4. Follow the instructions on the screen
5. Quit the installation program. Restart the computer and hold down the mouse button to eject the CD.

No matter if a) or b) is your problem, try the following steps:

6. Launch Keychain Access, located in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities
7. In the menu bar, select Edit > Settings for (username)
8. Press the button "change password..." and type in the same password your user account has. If you don't know it or if your user account has no password at all, set an empty password or well, do the steps 1-5 anyway.

Thanks for the Reply. "(b)" is the Problem. We will try those 'Steps' you outlined

And Sorry, it's actually, like you said, called "Key Chain" not "Chain Key"

Thanks for the Explaination

Neat Website, I can't read German though. Is there a Program that will translate everything for me ??? Thanks
