CHA_FAN2 said N/A?

Hi all, I am new to the computer world 🙂
I've just finished putting my first build together, everything works very well, but there's a slight problem. I bought an aftermarket chassis fan (scythe something) and it has a 3 pin header, which i plugged that into the Asus m5a97 evo motherboard's CHA_FAN2 head. FOr some reason, in bios, the device is not recognized, i.e it said CHA_FAN2 N/A. I have enabled Q-fan and whatever else that was in the bios, I just couldn't get this CHA_FAN2 to work.... 🙁

Now if i plug the fan to the power supply, it works fine, the problem is it spins at max speed (like a turbo of a car that sexy whoosh sound) and thus very very loud.

THank you all!

Does it spin when plugged into the fan2 header or just not monitor the rpms? Could be a defective fan. The yellow wire does the rpm monitoring so take a peek at that to make sure
its making good contact.

Hey friend, so after closer inspection, I realized that on the 3 pin connector (designed for the mobo) only has a yellow wire to it, meaning out of the 3 holes, one was yellow basically for monitoring rpm. the other two holes have no pins. BUT the fan has a power supply molex connector on the side.

So i guess i'll switch my question to, can i plug the 3-pin connector to the mobo WHILE plugging the PSU molex to the PSU for power? Since the layout of the fan is like this... but i don't wanna fry my mobo lol.

so in short.

1. the 3 pin to mobo has a yellow wire only (hence the 3 hole only has 1 hole, which is connected to the yellow wire)
2. the fan also has molex male and female 4 pin connector, for the PSU.

hm. can i plug both to PSU and mobo?
