CGW Museum (computer gaming world)

CGW is old school pc gaming magazine, it was my favorite before they folded and PC gamer took over back in the early 90's

i fondly remember rushing into the house to read it after the mailman delivers it. while reading the first few tidbits on Ultima online and cringed at the monthly fee.... how the time has changed.

this was before the age of internet where you get all your gaming information from magzines and purchase your pc parts from computer shopper.

while searching for old issues, i hit this site where you can download and peruse the first 100 issues.

i never got into ultima online on my 2400 baud. i was a poor HS student that just graduated. years later, i experimented with ultima private servers, but it was never the same and i started to play EQ 1

I loved CGW, up until the late 90s shortly before they folded. I'll have to check out your link when I get home from work.

CGW was THE best PC gaming magazine. They only reviewed a released game (which was not the norm in the 80's & 90's with PC gamer churning out absolutely horrid reviews on titles that would not be released for some time) and were not afraid to criticize the games of the more established companies when they churned out something that wasn't good at release (remember UO getting coaster of the month? That caused quite a stir, but the review was spot on). They had great hardware coverage too. Sure, toward the end they weren't what they used to be, but still better than their contemporaries.

Yep, totally agree.

I loved their 15th anniversary issue in 1996.

Nice! thanks for this. I remember some of those covers though I did not get into pc gaming heavy until 1998.
