Well, the playoffs are almost upon us.

So, who's going to take it?

First round:

Saskatchewan at Calgary (West)
Winnipeg at Toronto (East)

My Riders > Your Bombers

:D

Seriously though, I agree with the TO vs BC Grey Cup matchup. Hopefully the Riders can put together a solid playoff run like they have a couple of times in the past few years. They seem to play better in the playoffs.

I always get my hopes up, then they just let me down all the time. Sigh...

I forget, what's the number Stegal has to beat again? How many does he have now?

EDIT: Wo0T! The Riders have at least 2 fans here!!! VVV

My riders will prevail against BC this week!
What was with Winnipegs horrific loss to tortonto 3-4 wks back?
That was the worst coaching I think I had ever seen!!

Have you ever gone to the Labour Day classic? I made the drive out maybe 5 years ago (one of the few that the Bombers actually won!). Riders fans are nuts! what's with the watermellons anyway?

Oh, and regarding Stegall:

Career Touchdowns (CFL)

George Reed - 137
Mike Pringle - 137
Milt Stegall - 135

As ashamed as I am to admit it, I've never been to a Rider game (even though I'm in Saskatoon which is only like 2 1/2 hours away).

Yeah the Labour Day classic is usually one big party. I'm not sure about the Watermellons...I guess maybe just because they're green or something...

I'd cheer for Sask if they made it to the Grey Cup (unless they were playing Winnipeg). It's a rivalry, but I'd still cheer for you guys!

Not really a "football"(aka Noth American Handball) fan. OTOH, when the Lions do well I'll do a "Go Lions Go" in response! :D

Meh, if the CFL didn't exist there would already be NFL teams in Canada. The rule differences are kind of cool, but they can't overcome the inferior level of talent and make the CFL the better league...

The CFL was quite competitive with the NFL up until the mid 60's. There were even exhibition games played between the two leagues, and although the CFL teams rarely won, (or maybe only won once), they weren't blow-outs either.

What killed the CFL as far as talent was the television contracts that the NFL started to sign in the 70's there was just no way to compete with the population base in the states.

I think the CFL has a better Game, but not the players to play it.

When I was a kid and had no authority over the TV I noticed a big difference between the 2 leagues:

1) NFL: Super hyped games of Dogpile after Dogpile. NFL "football" plods along like Baseball.

2) CFL: More of a sporting event than a spectacle. Much more exciting to watch with Pasing plays dominating due to fewer Downs.

"Football" was a favorite game to play when I was a kid. Whether Touch or Tackle, it was a blast. Never played organized "football"(other than PE class games), but just 2-2 or 3-3 games with friends. One of my best sports memories is also from playing "football". I just find the game, especially the NFL, exceedingly boring to watch.

Jamie Boreham kicked a field goal with 17 seconds remaining in regulation to complete Hamilton's comeback as the Ticats beat the Edmonton Eskimos 20-18 on Friday night. The Eskimos (4-9), in jeopardy of missing the playoffs for the first time in 34 years, lost both halves of the crucial home and home series with the Ticats (4-11), also falling 27-22 last week in Hamilton.

Lions season ticket holder here :)

The CFL had a great base right through the late 80's to very early 90's... then they expanded into the states and interest plummeted. It's picking back up again though and I think more Canadians are becoming solid fans again.

I wonder whats gona happen with montreal. Winning 7 then losing 6 straight does not make a good season. I think its time to make some changes.

Yeah, they're the only team doing as bad as Winnipeg. :)

I mean Hamilton is just a perennial loser, so that's a bit of a different situation, but Winnipeg and Montreal both won their first 6 or 7 and haven't really won since. :(

But... When it's Winnipeg that beats Montreal to keep Montreal's losing streak going. :D
