CF to IDE - hard-wiring together

Has anyone here successfully hard-wired an IDE cable to a Compact Flash card? I found an incomplete guide, along with some other specs and such for adapters, but I am having some trouble wiring it properly. If anyone knows of a good guide, or could supply a high-quality picture of their own project I would be very interested in seeing it.

I'm sure I've seen inexpensive adaptors that do just that.

ya, $20-$30 is about the cheapest, but I want to see if I can do it the hard way...
