I have been computing for about 12 years. I took courses for a+ but never tested. I have study guides for NT4 and never tested. I have my nose in a W2K core study guide now and think I will try for testing in this MCSE program. I have worked as an assistant IT man in a medical institution with 250 employeees and spread throughout 5 counties,hence I have real world lan/wan TCP/IP experience and building computers and networks.

Is the W2K certs a meal ticket,or should i get the A+ too? Is Novell going to be in business long enough to consider CNE? I know Novell is strong here in Utah,(The whole state is wired in Novell). I hope to work in Las Vegas and comute from here. Lots of casinos with lots of computers. And I have telephone experience as well. I run a small web based computer store now out of my home now,but this ain't cuttin it! I want a challenge.
 
A+ certification is more for technicians who work at shops like CompUSA. The Win2k MCSE course is an okay idea, but companies aren't rolling it out as much as Microsoft had hoped.

You may want to take a look see in the job listings in the area you are looking to work at to see what kind of demand is present. A great place to look is something like Dice.com. They have a great search engine and let you peruse through what seems like endless positions.

Anyhow, I really recommend the Solaris and Cisco certs. They are both in demand and are definitely meal tickets.
 
With your experience, certification may not be a *necessity* at all. You could wait until you find a job that offers training benefits before you worry about certs.

If you have that experience, and you can get your company to pay for your tests/books/etc., I'd shoot for the MCSE. It's not something that will make a dramatic impact on your salary (most likely) or anything else, but it will help solidify your position.
