I am an IT support/Network Admin at the company I work for. I have a strange problem with two of my users.
There is a certain set of .doc files that they can not open with Word when they are connected to the local Active Directory network. They sent the file to me when I was in another office (NT based network) and I could open the file fine. However, when I returned to the AD network, I was also unable to open the file. (Word freezes, get the Not Responding deal.) The file is on my hard drive. If I unplug my network cable I can open the file again. If I start to open the file while connected to the AD network and it isn't working, I can unplug the network cable from the machine and it will open. All the machines in question are running Windows XP; I have a 2000 user that does not have this same issue.
I have tried uninstalling my copy of Office from my machine, and re-installed from a CD to ensure it was not a network install. I ran an administrative installation to my hard drive using the /a modifier, and then installed Office to my machine. No luck. I have also updated the end user's Office using Office Update, and they are completely up to date on Windows Updates. Still no luck. Any ideas, this one really has me stumped!
