Certain Games dont go to right resolution.

I have a Radeon X1950XT. My moniter's max supported resoulution is 128x1024. But in the Battlefield 2 Demo as well as the FEAR demo, i can only set it up to 1280x960. I think this is a widescreen resolution so the image looks kindof funny on this resolution. I know my graphics card is more than capable of a 1280x1024 resolution. this is kndof annoying because i have to keep it at 1024x768. I also noticed that when i first installed CCC with my new card, it for some reason tried to set it to 1280x960. Is there something wrong with my moniter? thanks.

1280x960 is actually a 4:3 ratio, whereas 1280x1024 is not.

You may go into either Windows Display Properties or CCC and make sure that you have 1280x1024 as an option for your monitor. It may just be incorrectly disabling that resolution because of your refresh rate or something.

I think my monitor actually has a 5:4 aspect ratio (19"). I tried putting the refresh rate back down at it's default 60 Hz but that didnt make a difference. And 1280x1024 is an option, that is what it is set at right now. After CCC tried to put it at 1280x960 i answered no to "do you want to keep these settings and it went to 1280x 1024. Actually when i first installed CCC, 1280x1024 wasnt an option. 1280x960 was as high as i could go. then as i said before i applied the 1280x960 res and then answered no when prompted and suddenly 1280x1024 was an option.
Also, all the other games iv tried have not done this. Is it possible that they put a res cap on the demos because they are just demos?

That is a possibility, because when I downloaded the Quake demo it would not let me play on Ultra settings until I bought the game.

Seems unusual that it would force you to use a resolution that your monitor does not handle well, though. 😕

I am not exactly forced to use 1280x960, i can use any resoulutions below that so i usually just put it on 1024x768. But the image quality is quite degraded by that. I guess i would have to buy oine of the games to fine out if my theory about the demo cap is correct unless someone here can confim it. Thanks for the replies.

Both the BF2 and FEAR demos dont support 1280*1024 natively. Nothing is wrong with your PC, it's the game developer's fault :|

to get the BF2 demo to run at 1280*1024, put "+szx 1280 +szy 1024" in the command line of the shortcut on your desktop. For example, my shortcut looks like this: "C:\Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024"

For FEAR, go to Documents and Settings\All Users\[Shared] Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR\settings.cfg and change the line "ScreenWidth" "xxxx" to 1280 and "ScreenHeight" "yyyy" to 1024.

🙂

Thanks alot. I have 2 questions though:
1. Does that meen that those resolutions ARE supported in the full versions of these games?
2. Usually when you change video settings for these games it hase to optimize the shaders. It doesn't do that when you force the resolution. Is this going to cause any problems with the demos?

1. I think they both have 1280x1024 supported 🙂
