A domain is your .com, .net, etc. You can buy them for $8.88 per year from Namecheap.com.

Feel free to drop me an email with any questions you might have, ankit@REMOVEcernax.com. :)

Does it matter who I get my domain from? Isn't yahoo cheaper? I think 4.95 and it was even 1.95 for a while? So what is the difference from a regular domain and a "parked" domain?

I'm planning on going through Cernax as I have heard nothing but good things about them. As soon as I figure out a name for my domain I'm going to sign up :)

It'll keep me occupied until I actually leave on my trip

I haven't ever used the Yahoo domain registration service myself, so maybe RossMAN can comment on that?

A parked domain basically doesn't have it's own website directory or IP address, it simply takes them to another one. For example, Cernax.com is our website. Cernax.org is a parked domain and simply displays whatever Cernax.com has.

I have never personally used Yahoo! domain registration but I have read a few nightmares.

Pay the extra few bucks and go with a bonified domain registrar such as GoDaddy.com or NameCheap.com

NameCheap.com is simple, efficient, awesome and offers FREE WhoisGuard protection for the first year.

In general, I reccomend the "you get what you pay for" thinking, it applies to many things as you probably know and does include hosting. You have to look into the company's hardware, support, server uptime, knowledgebase quality, reputation, etc.

Well, I'd like to rescind my previous opinion about resellerzoom. They aren't what they used to be. With their huge influx of new customers, they seemed to have stuffed hundreds of reseller clients on each server and as a result, the performance has been VERY poor. Load issues, downtime, mySQL issues, you name it. My experience has been terrible with them the past few months, I have really been "getting what I paid for". Whenever I would ask them to fix their problems, they'd immediately go on the defense with the outplayed "every host has problems" comment. So for now, I definitely don't recommend resellerzoom. I'm with SonataWeb ATM :)

Insert "Told ya so". Like I've said 10000000000000000x times before, you get what you pay for.

This always falls on deaf ears with CHEAP AT'ers.

SonataWeb.net is great especially their unpublished resellers account:
  • Host unlimited domains
  • Storage: 750 MB's
  • Transfer: 15,000 MB's
  • cPanel/WHM Access
  • SonataWeb DNS Servers*
  • 18 cPanel Themes - RVSkins & XController Included.
  • Fantastico Auto Installer
  • 30 Day Money Back Guarantee
  • 99.8% Uptime Guarantee
  • $5.95 a month

Hey, they used to be OK! :(

Last time I searched, HostingZoom is a pretty reputable hosting company. Reseller Zoom is their subsidiary, so I figured they wouldn't be so bad. Also, there were SEVERAL positive reviews about RZ on WHT before I went with them. (now, they're pretty much mixed.) I didn't just go with them because they were "cheap"

I just have to throw in my $.02 and recommend Cernax. I'm glad I'm using them, their service couldn't be better.

What a joke... I hate people like GerminVerbin or whatever his name was. The guy tells him that some of the stuff does not transfer, yet he thinks he is so right as a customer to spread B.S.
