Centurylink Router connected to my own router?

Well this is something I have never done before and I may need some help. I'll keep it short.

I just had Centurylink installed but the only option they had for me was their own wireless enabled router (PK5001Z model). Trouble is, their wi-fi obviously sucks and I am guessing the router as a whole does as well. I already have my own wi-fi router from DLink (DGL-4500) that I would greatly prefer to use.

So the easy question would be, is anyone aware of a good modem that works with Centurylink that is just that......a modem alone? If so, point me to where I can get one and problem solved.



If not, how in the world do I hook these two routers together to where they function well. Going from the 1st port on the Centurylink to the 1st port on the Dlink works....kinda. Seems incontinent and the internet disappears at random for a minute or two at a time. What further setup would I need to do or is this even possible? I have no problem setting up a basic network...modem....router...switches and hubs.....but I have NEVER tried router to router before. Any Help?

You should be able to put the centurylink box into dummy mode.

If not, set your D-Link into bridge mode.

Don't double NAT.

Well, despite setting up plenty of networks in the past, I still consider myself a novice at best. Still, I think I got it.

Have always had cable in the past so it was just...plug and play for the most part.

Never done this before.....but...I set the DSL Router in its "modem only" mode. Then set the router to pppoe and used the name and password, then just went from port 1 of the DSL router to the internet port on the Dlink and..it works.

So far so good. Did I do it right or am I gonna run into trouble?

If the Routing aspects of the current main Router are Good.

Keep it as the main Router with the humble Wireless, and add the second Wireless Router as a an Access Point. ( http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html ).

You will have more Wireless Bandwidth and additional Happiness.

APs same SSID original on Ch-1 secondary Ch-11.

Sounds right. Any problems you have now will be caused by the devices themselves, not how they're configured.
