I woke up this morning, groggy and uncoordinated. I stumbled to the door and shyly cracked it open. It was cold. I would be cold.
I put on my shorts, pulled on my leg warmers. Base layer, top layer, gloves. My shoes tightened with a buzz from the ratcheting lock. I stood there for a bit, contemplating. Why am I awake and in uniform before the sun has risen on such a cold morning? Undeterred, I lowered my bike from its mount and wheeled it out the front door, shutting it behind me.
On an abandoned highway, I rode. Due east from the heart of Austin. Fifty miles out, I stopped. I turned my bike around, and rode home.
Century.
