Centrino Power Vs. Pentium 4 or Pentium 4m equivilent

Whats the rough comparison of the power of the Centrino to the rest of the P4's? I've heard various estimates like the 1.6Ghz is equivilent to a 2.4 P4. Whats the conversion rate?

I think it goes something like this:

1.3ghz Pentium-M (Centrino/Banias) equals a 1.8ghz P4.
1.4 - 2.0
1.5 - 2.2
1.6 - 2.4

The word Centrino is something Intels marketing came up with. Centrino means: Pentium-M cpu, 855 chipset and Intel WIFI.

That would put the PM 1.7Ghz at 2.6Ghz.

Not bad.

Voodoopc.com has this little snippet:

"If you take the processor speed and multiply it by 1.9 you'll get a similar speed equivelant to the desktop Pentium 4 Processors in similar laptop configurations - according to our benchmark tests."

Holy cow..that would break down to:

1.3 P-M GHz=2.47 P4 GHz
1.4 P-M GHz=2.66 P4 GHz
1.5 P-M GHz=2.85 P4 GHz
1.6 P-M GHz=3.04 P4 GHz
1.7 P-M GHz=3.23 P4 GHz

Seems a little generous

I've been a believer in the Pentium-M since it came out. However, even too me that just sounds slightly too much.

I would have to agree. The only benchmark I ran that would come even close to the 1.9x per MHz claim would be Hexus PiFast. My 1.30 GHz Pentium-M was as fast as a 2.40 GHz (533 Bus) Pentium 4.

I would say 1.30 GHz Pentium M is in general about as fast as a 1.80 GHz Pentium 4.

Factor of 1.9 is definitely too much and nothing more than a marketing hype by VoodooPC. It is more like 1.4 -1.5x. Just think of the P-M 1.6GHz as P4m 2.4GHz in term of performance comparison.
