I think you can order now, but I've heard wait time is about a month for Dell's Centrinos. The best Dell Centrino alternative to the 8500 is the Latitude D800 with Geforce 4 4200 Go and 15.4" wide screen (up to 1920x1200 with the WUXGA+ option). Other Dell's are the Inspiron 600m and the Latitude D600.

Personally, I'm going to try to hold out a couple months for new models featuring the new graphics chips, ATI's Mobility Radeon 9600 (and Pro) and Nvidia's GeForce FX Go5200 and Go5600 mentioned in this article: The Future of Mobile Gaming: New Chips from ATI and NVIDIA .

yea, and only the d800 has firewire. if either the d600 or 600m did i'd probably get one of those. but i'm gonna have to wait and see if they add it.

I can tell you it's going to be more than a couple months wait, especially for the FX chips.

I know these things are always late, but I have read in different articles a date of late May for the first new ATI mobile chips (9600) and I also read that Toshiba will have a model with one of the new Nvidia chips as early as April.

Yeah, but then you'd have a Gateway POS.

ZING!

BTW, I don't want to start a flame war, it's just that I've only known three people that owned Gateways and they all hated them.
