Over the past 6-7 years, we've rarely had more than a 3-inch snowfall. Only once or twice in the last 15 years do I remember anything deeper than, say, 6 inches. In that time period there've been a number of near misses (heavy snows maybe 50 miles north or west of here). It gets plenty cold and we've had a number of forecasts predicting decent snowfall but nothing actually happens.

I faaaahhhhht in the snow god's general direction.

The people here drive bad enough in 1/2" of snow I don't want to think about them in 3".

The Ohio River pretty much stops everything in its tracks... Louisville never gets much either

I would guess it has more to do with geography and hills than a flat body of water about 1/2 mile wide.

umm, the ohio river valley has a huge affect on the weather, generally stopping or holding storms.

Yeah but that's not the river. That's the land.

Well what created the valley smarty pants?

 The river didn't necessarily create the whole valley though. Sure it's contributed to what's now the bottom, but there was already some sort of valley in the beginning or the river wouldn't have flowed where it is in the first place.

I feel ya. We always get shafted here in Richmond. The past few years have been frustrating to say the least, as I enjoy a decent snowfall once a year (6"+) When I was a kid, I remember getting some snows that was a foot or more, but that hasn't happened for years. Like you said, we haven't gotten more than 3" for the past few years atleast.
