Nice deal. I was in CC today taking advantage of the $9.99 CDs, but didn't see this one. I don't really need the RAM anyway.

While generic, Centon RAM chips have always worked fine for me. I grabbed a 256mb of PC2100 laptop memory at CC a few weeks ago, and it works fine in my Toshiba laptop.

nice deal...needed a new stick since my Crucial 256 stick went down (crashed and burned on Vice City). Picking it up in a few minutes. Thanks for the heads up.

Save yourself 20 bucks and send it back to crucial... Unless you are looking for an upgrade?

The centon one will take a while, but the CC one should come quickly. I bought a stick of SODIMM less than a month ago and I already got the rebate.

Found one stick left at my local CC.

Kinda raised my eyebrows at the package though. Days it will only work on AMD desktops?

I was planning to use it on my Dell Dimension 4550.

Spectek label on the pcb.

Yeah, Spectek logo on the chips, too (had to check on their website)

Now I'm wondering if I should scour the other local CCs :p

No problem for the Dell. I'm putting it in my 4500.

Here is a link to the manufacturer site specifying that module for the Dell 4500:

this was on the $25 centon rebate. the alternative that printed out at the register required the original sales receipt which did not print out at the register. Did not say a copy okay or that the email confirmation okay. The register rebate and the online rebate had different wording.

I haven't picked mine up yet, but RAM normally has the serial number on a little sticker on the stick itself.

I don't know if anybody else is having this problem, but I just bought this Centon ram stick and in the two ddr systems I've been able to try it in it's only showing up as 256mb. The packaging clearly says 512MB, and both MB's support up to 512mb per slot, so I'm totally confused.

I guess I maybe got a dud ... ?
Or else (I suppose it's possible), they know it and that's why they're offering so many rebates for it.

Anybody else?

Just curious how you tell. Is there a web site you can look up the codes on the individual chips?

The chips on mine read:

elixir 0252
N2DS25680BT-6k
090Y1BFY SG

There is no label on the stick that says PC2100 or PC2700, just Centon 512mbddr 161109

Also, is it possible they sell 2700s that don't pass at that speed as 2100s?

TIA

edit:

Searched Google and the only hit I can find with any information is not english and only in Google's cache:

Text

On that page, my chips show up only in a table of PC2700 sticks as: N2DS25680BT-6K CL=2.5. Does that make this a PC2700 stick?

I think that's a 2700. Usually, 2100 would have 7.5 at the end rather than 6. The number indicates latency. 1000/6 = 166.66, 1000/7.5=133.333.
Also, is it possible they sell 2700s that don't pass at that speed as 2100s?
Very likely but the chips are tested before they are packaged so it would be labeled as a 2100 chip.
