The sub normally does not sound best right below the TV, although that depends on the room...

You're suppose to play hide the sub so nobody knows where you put it.

I like it turned backwards under the tv, or turned forward under my desk.
Bass makes it tough for me to hear what I want to hear because my high tones are scorched.

Putting a sub in a corner could help reinforce the bass output but tends to make it very boomy.

Hmm...what if the top of the TV is above ear level when seated.

Like I said in my post, or as close as you can get it. 90% of the time, that's on top of the TV.

Stick a shoe under the back of it so it aims slightly downward.

Or you could use your bad attitude, young lady, unless you want to spend the next two weeks grounded.

Apex is correct.

Best placement is behind the screen.

Yet another win for front projection.

For normal TVs above is usually best unless you can get the tweeters and 30 degree angle from the speaker from below.

I was at lab! I was at lab!

Above is usually the better bet than below, but I guess than depends on the height you have your tv.

Above the tv and angled down or below and angled up are the things to try. If you want to be sure, you can try both and try to tell the difference as to what sounds better.
