"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" . . . is a Western concept . . . that doesn't translate well to Central Asia and the Middle East.

Pakistan - Nuclear power, unstable government and several extremist groups are in the country, including al-Qaeda.

Saudi Arabia - Majority of the worlds oil supply, corrupt government, and do I have to remind you of where most of the 9/11 attackers came from?

Not exactly hard to figure out that they are such threats

But that's not a grave and gathering threat to America . . . except for Osama in the mountains . . . but we aren't talking about him anymore.

Corrupt . . . yes. But they are a US-friendly corrupt. That's an acceptable flavor of despotism. Furthermore, they are not a grave and gathering threat b/c 9/11 is history . . . all is forgiven.

How is it not a threat for a nation with nuclear arms to have an unstable government?

Also, while the current government in Saudi Arabia is US-friendly corrupt, that doesn't mean someone like Osama(this is one of the things he is pissed about, remember) overthrows the government and decides to stop exporting oil. The world economic impact of that would be huge; they wouldn't even need to launch a weapon to hurt us by doing that.

general abizaid is an idiot if he thinks that musharraf is really the victim in this.

musharraf funds and supports the terrorist groups. it is common knowledge to anyone from that region of the world. Up until the U.S. attacked Afghanistan, the Taliban were in and out of Pakistan like me walking down the street. no checking, no nothing. they were allies, and 7 of the top 11 taliban commanders were from Pakistan. the taliban was formed in pakistan, with the aid of the Pakistani government.

I am willing to bet that the so-called assasination attempts were staged by Musharraf as he is attention deprived and wants more attention (money) from the U.S. The terrorist groups in Pakistan are very well armed and have good intelligence; if they wanted to kill Musharraf by now, they would have. It would not take 2 assasination attempts. Pakistans government, particularly the ISI is the biggest threat to the world.

But, the Saudis are too in terms of funding. they love pouring money into islamic schools that teach hatred.
