So, it was either the beginning of this week or late last week that we received the letter telling us that the census is coming soon. Um..what? Why the hell would we need a letter telling us that the census is coming? Why not just send the damn thing? Is there a reason for this?
How much money was wasted on sending those letters alone?

Funny I said pretty much the same thing to my wife when we received that waste of paper Monday. Wouldn't it be more efficient to send the freaking forms out then follow up with the non-respondents with a reminder and another copy of the form?

The letter you received is the result of years of breeding stupidity into the minds of Americans. You see, Tristicus, the vast majority of our countrymen are fat, disgusting, mindless fools who are completely incapable of independent thought. Therefore, the government must remind and/or inform them of things to come, or they risk confusion and chaos among the masses. Everyone knows this.

I thought the same, it being a waste. But from what I have heard they do that for 2 major reasons.

1. To make sure the address is still good and if the letter comes back they look into it.
2. Keeps people from throwing it away thinking its junk mail. Republicans put the word Census on a fund raising letter and I have seen other business's use that word so many people see that on the outside and think junk.

Exactly what I was thinking when I opened it. What a waste of time and money.

Under this line of thinking we all should have received a letter informing us we were to receive a letter reminding us that we would be receiving a census form.

They've done this every census for as long as I can remember. I think it's a 'tradition' or something.

Oh, welcome back too.

LOL! Give 'em another few years and we'll have that very thing. Or maybe an actual person will arrive at each home to announce that soon, you will receive a census form.

And another big "Welcome back" to The Flying Pig. You have been missed. Everyone knows this.

Give redneck hicks a warning to decrease likelihood of shooting on sight a stranger who comes to their door.

This letter is to inform you that soon a government worker will come to your door to tell you that soon you will receive a letter telling you that soon you will receive a census form. DO NOT SHOOT HIM! He is not a revenuer nor an IRS worker. He is not there to fluoridate your water. He is only there to tell you to expect your census form notification letter.

We got the census form last week. It was hanging on the door in plastic bag. It was the short form, basically who lives here and do you own your home?

The last figure I saw stated the 2010 census was costing taxpayers $15,000,000,000.00.

You mean the census worker who killed themselves and tried to stage it as the doings of "redneck hicks"?

:awe:

I heard somebody say it would have been $44 million in postage alone (with the logic of $0.44 stamp and 100,000,000 homes).

Gotta help the USPS somehow!

Anyone else planning to refuse to answer some or all of the supplemental American Community Survey if they receive it?

I heard the overall cost was over $100 million.

Considering the simple minded tea party movement, I think a letter was necessary.
Otherwise, Rush would have convinced people the census was just some government Obama plot to rape your kids, and steal your cheching account nunbers.
