Saw this yesterday at the local P.Costco. Does anyone know who makes these drives? Package says "w/burnproof". Hoping that they might be Plextors, or something else decent.

Just purchased one today. The drive is a Liteon LTR-12101B w/burnproof. The boxed unit has the interface cable, mounting screws, audio cable, Nero-OEM, and a blank disk. There's a thread on this unit further down labeled "Lite-On 12x10x32x.....Seems most folks are happy with this drive thus far. Hope to install tomorrow. Our Costco price was 129.99.

cendyne probably does rebrand stuff, cuz i have an 8x8x32 that RULES. supports all software i throw at it, and i have no complaints, and nothing but praise for it. had some problems early on, but a firmware update fixed it. how do i know if this is a re-branded plextor anyway?

Hey Maximum,

i dont think its the right drive you linked to. that drive there looks to be with an 8x dvd player. looking at the cendyne, to me looks like the ricoh mp7120a.

cendyne is hit or miss, I had there 4x4x24, it sucked a$$,
but others have had better experience, if it is a plextor clone grab it,
I actually got one of the iomegas for $100 and it smokes (never burned a bad cd,
unless my system crashed for some other reason, and that only on full reboot)

If you think you can live without support on this drive, it might be OK. But, I bought a Cendyne branded Plextor a year or more ago and got left high and dry by this hole-in-the-wall Orange County outfit. The support phone number gets you a recorded message to email them. The email response a week later by the support staff (1 English deficient Hmong tribesman) will likely have little to do with your original problem.

It's a "Lite-On" build drive it's printed on the back of the drive.Amazon.com has the CenDyne 12X10X32 for $139.99 after a $30 (Amazon.com only) mail-in rebate.

I just picked up a Cen Dyne CDRW at Frys here in Dallas for $77. It is a Ricoh model #7063A. 6-4-32. Ricoh's web site has firmware upgrades for it. I hope it will do the trick for a while. Couldn't afford much more than that!!

The 6x can be upgraded to 8x, but Ricoh has pulled the files you need to do it. I haven't been able to find a place to download them. I did it when they were available and my drive works great...

jwootang - the RW7063A can be upgraded to 8x burn, that is the model we are talking about.

I just received the CenDyne 12x10x32x CD-RW Drive I purchased from Amazon.com.It's not the "Burn Proof" version, this one is made by RICOH not LITE-ON who's version is "Burn Proof" .So if you want the "Burn Proof" version don't purchase from Amazon.com.Although they do offer a $30 rebate.

I received mine from Amazon about 3 weeks ago and it is the LiteOn w/ burn proof. :D Must depend on what they receive from their supplier as to which drive they send out.

I picked up a cendyne scsi 12x, flashed it to the oem sanyo firmware and have had no problems. IF it has burnproof there is a good chance you can use the sanyo firmwares as well. Good luck

The Cendyn 12x4x32 SCSI is a Sanyo, the 8x8x32 IDE is a Teac, both excellent drives. I also upgraded a Cendyn 6x4x32 to Ricoh 8x8x32 (7083a) specs, and it works fine. Don't try Sanyo firmware on a Liteon drive. The Ricoh drives are excellent at reading burned CDs and do DAE at about 17x average. Of course the drives Cendyn repackages could change at any time.
