right now im running a celly2 566 @ 850 . with the recent price drops i have been thinking of going to a p3 700e and hopefully clocking it up to 933 . i understand the p3 has more and faster cache , however will it really make that much difference ($ 150 bucks worth ) to make the switch since all we use this rig for is games? thanks in advance for any help .

I would go for a p3. Celeron is realy a very LOW performer.
Next time buy some AMD stuff, will ya.

you're going through the sam eproblem as me
i'm looking to upgrade but dont know if i should make the jump to the p3 for the extra cash
all the reviews i've read put the q3 way ahead expecially in my favorite games
now that the prices have dropped its no biggie to spend a bit more and get a better cpu

Well I have a Celeron 667 OCed to 752 and it is only 12% slower than my P-III 800 with a 133 FSB. I could only get it to 752 but its still fast enough to run UT at 1024x768 with no problems.

12% slower? According to what, the SiSoft CPU benchmark? That's only a synthetic test. It doesn't test any of the caching or memory abilities of a system.
