My wife is currently with AT&T and has TDMA service. The coverage here is poor and she needs to use her phone as a modem for her laptop.
I am looking at going to Verizon which has better coverage and a CDMA system.
1. Can I buy a phone anywhere and have Verizon supply the service?
2. Do I have to buy the Mobile Office Kit from them (to hook up to laptop) or is it available elsewhere?

BTW, I know about howard forums but if I am going to be flamed for being ignorant, I'd rather get flamed here. :)
TIA

One problem with Verizon is that many of the phones they offer have a problem with echo. For instance if you talk, you will hear your voice in the speaker a split second afterwards. VERY distracting.

Another option is to get a cell phone that has web capability.
Do all sites accessed have to be WAP capable or will any site work?

Hi, per a PM I am here to help you out. I was too sleepy this morning to answer the question but now that I'm at work, I can answer.

Here I go, I understand that AT&T's internet is crap. I've heard this from tons of people both on HoFo and off.

I know Verizon and Sprint both use 3G CDMA.

You cannot just buy any phone and use it with Verizon. You would have to buy a phone specifically for Verizon. Verizon does not work off of GSM which uses a smart chip or SIM card.

All you would need is a data capable phone along with a data cable and your wife would be able to connect to the internet via her phone.

Also I'm not familiar with Verizon's data packages but I'm pretty sure they have an unlimited internet for say $29.99 a month? I know T-Mobile has an unlimited package for $29.99 a month.

Please PM if you have any more questions. I'm always please to try and help out an Elite Member.

Echoing happens with all carriers. I've had it happen to me with T-Mobile and Nextel. There are no fixes to the problem, it just happens.
