Cellular phone number switching company thing, anyone done it yet!!???

Has anyone done the wireless phone number transfer thing yet with another provider? We currently have Sprint PCS and want to switch to Verizon, but keep the numbers. Now the trick is to first call Verizon and tell them to switch the numbers, but has anyone done this yet? and how'd it go?

It's called LNP (Line Number Portability) and I don't think you call in first to get the number ported. You must go to a store/kiosk and activate a new Verizon account and instead of just getting a number, tell them that you want to port a number. Make sure you have your Sprint bill with you as they will need some information off of that.

I did it in a roundabout way and took a few days for the process to finish. Other's have been able to get it working in a few hours and still others had no luck and had to give up their old numbers. Experiences will vary...
