Cellular 911 is crap.

So I went out this afternoon and at the end of my street is some homie slapping his girlfriend around in broad daylight. I call 911 on my cell and the message: 911 is busy, please hold. Well, after holding 2 minutes I hang up and call them via 411. The operator says "is this an emergency?" I don't know, I guess it is, he could pull out a gun and shoot her, right? So I say yes. He says "please hold for a supervisor" 30 seconds later, new "supervisor" operator comes on line, looks up the local PD and puts me through. Funny part is the message that reminds you of the number they're putting you through to plays first. "Thank you for using directory assistance. We're putting you through to blah blah blah blah at no additional charge."

Good thing it wasn't a bloodbath or anything. The cops hunted the guy down while I was on the phone, I got to see them roll up on him and throw him in the back.

Edit for the girlfriend gripe: Girlfriend is with me, starts arguing for me not to go away and gestures towards getting out and getting involved. Our relationship is crappy enough without this white trash moment, not to mention that the last time I got involved and tried to help someone my friend got shot and killed and I nearly did. She was swearing at me too.

She apologized afterwards, but I said not accepted, no way no how. I really need to extracate myself from this relationship. She's very, very sweet but so misguided and stubborn it's intolerable. 🙁

Same happened to me right after I saw a motorcyclist get hit by a truck. Called 911 right after he hit the ground and was on hold for 5 minutes before I hung up since I was 3 miles away by then and I saw at least 20 people run towards the accident as I drove past.

so what happened afterwards? did you stick around to see if cops would show up?

You have the right to remain silent. Read his post. Then you can talk again. 😉
