Cellphone advice needed.

The wife and I decided that it was about time to give in and get a cell phone.... there has been a handful of times this month that we could have used a phone, so we decided we might as well start looking..

We are in the Chicago area, and both want a cellphone. Ideally we could call each other at least a few hundred minutes a month and not have that be taken from our total anytime minutes.

Not sure if a family plan is best, but that may end up being cheaper. Anything around 5hrs of anytime minutes should be plenty for a month, and night time unlimited would be nice..... We dont use the phone THAT much, but it would be handy.

If there are any companies to stay away from for this area, or in general feel free to speak up, since I know about jack squat. Saw a few deals for free phones from AT&T, $49.99 a month.

Thanks

hot deals thread

I have Sprint and they offer free Sprint->Sprint calling, meaning you and your wife can both get Sprint and have unlimited calling between you. I believe they charge $10 to add an extra line to any plan, so you can get one with about 500 minutes and free nights and weekends for under $50 I'd bet.

Many of them also offer some incredible deals on phones themselves assuming you just want a standard phone and don't need anything fancy. Like buy one phone get 3 free, that kind of thing.

not really worried so much about getting a kickass phone, moreso at getting a good calling plan without a lot of hidden charges.

We are in the Chicago area 99% of the time, so should we do nationwide or regional.... if you choose regional, but then make a call out of your calling area do you get socked for it?

depends on what is important to you.

if you make MINIMAL calls, won't use it to call Long Distance and Coverage isn't that important go with a Tmobile plan or one of those rollover plans.

if Coverage, Customer service is PREMIUM and price isn't much of an issue, Verizon Wireless IS the PREMIUM wireless service on the market.
