Does any one know much about this ? ie

I want to sign up for verizon offer before the end of Aug (Free motorola e815 after rebate), my old phone contract expires 9/15.

Can I have 1 month of verizon service under whatever number they gave me and when my old phone expires, port the original number over ? or does it have to be done when you sign up ?

I been on hold for 30 min today looking for someone to answer and 40 yesterday.. not much help there..
 
I'm sure you can do it, the question is how much will it cost you to do.

You also need to read the terms of your rebate. Some places, like Amazon, will cancel the rebate if you change your number.
 
In Amazon's rebate form, I didn't see anything about not applying to an account with a number ported to it. I would assume that would be a brand new account in Verizon's eyes.

Yes it would, but you can still get it ported as it is now ok to do so with Verizon. Read this.
