My fathers cell phone is dying slowly sometimes nothing shows on the display screen...he has SPRINT PCS.

I was thinking if I buy a cell phone on ebay can i just transfer everything onto the new cell phone that I buy off ebay..most likely it will be a used phone.

He might be qualified for a free upgrade. Also at least at Cingular,if you go in and ask, sometimes they will have a box of phones that they can replace broke ones for free.

the screen just went out on my cingular phone...$30 for a new screen, "which may or may not" fix the problem. $50 for a replacement phone--even though I have insurance, $50 is the deductable. What would I have to do to activate a phone I bought new or used off a third-party seller?

I have Verizon, they've always been good at replacing their phones for me. I think this is my 3rd phone on this contract. Last time I dropped the phone getting out of the car and the sound went. They replaced it in an hour, no problem.

Call up your provider and tell them you got a new phone. Usually they ask for the serial #, and they say it takes a couple hours to activate. That has been my experience atleast...

so it's pretty much no hassle? I can probably find a used phone of the same model for less than $30.

If you've had it at least 18 months you can probably get a new one for free (or almost free) after rebates from Sprint

Some newer phones have some kind of chip in them that stores all of the user data. When you transfer the chip between compatible phones all of you data moves with it. I know my dad's Cingular phone does this, but my SprintPCS doesn't.
