Personally, I don't think THAT many people are buying new phones just for cameras. Sure they want a new phone but most likely they would have bought one anyway even w/o cameras. I bought mine cause I knew it was coming along and looked cool. However, I needed a new phone anyway so it was good timing.

Only reason to have it...

Scenario: You go to a bar and get wasted. You are dancing with this fine thang and she programs her number into your phone. How do you know whether or not to call her when you sober up? *Snap!*

Not many people are buying the new video cell phones, despite intensive advertising campaigns here.

however, while photo cell phones got off to a fairly slow start they are now gaining popularity - mainly because of the continual upgrade cycle, and the profusion of new models on the market. Additionally, the new interchange agreements between networks have meant that photo messages are no longer same-network only.

I've not used one myself, but have seen several - and while the pictures aren't great, I can see how the feature would be useful. But at £.40 per photo message, it could get very expensive...

once they get better, and if they ever become universally compatible? its nice ot have that extra capability. people use things when they become easy.

Could use them at an accident scene, shopping for a friend/family member and see something they might like and snap a pic, stealth photography of someone or something.

yeah that is the only reason i can think of having one.

I wanted to upgrade my cell phone. I have a samsung N105. i wanted a newer one with a color display. i called T-mobil and they only offered me a credit of $180 off the normal price of new phones. pft my contract ends in 3 months. i was thinking of going with sprint anyway.

not to mention the women i talked to was really really rude.

While the idea is cool, the pics are too small and grainy for voyeurism.

Oh wait, I mean for taking useful pictures.

the quality of that pic is incredibly better than my webcam's! when i was out shopping yesterday i saw a phonecam and it was really tiny and cute--if they made one for my phone i'd prolly give it a try. but i know it would suck battery power and not be very practical.

You can either e-mail a person the photo (from the phone) or you can upload it to a website setup by sprint specifically for the camera phones and send it out from there, etc. You can also, at least on my phone, hook it up to a computer via USB cable and download them directly.

Japan and South Korea have 3G mobiles, and the UK has a store with 3G mobiles, starting prices of £200
