Cell phones with cameras, fad or practical? (edit, now with picture)

My girlfriend just took a trip with her friend and sent me one of those cell phone pictures, actually it's cooler than I thought. A 6k image is suprisingly good!

Do any of you have/use phones like this? Do you like them?

Here's the pic! She's looking very Mariah Carey-ish in that one.

Just wait until she sends you or accidentally sends you one with her and another guy in bed! :shocked;

I think you can disable the "camera sound" on the Sanyo 5300 phone. As you can guess, you can get some really cool pictures with that phone. ;)

are "fun" and "fad" suppsoed to be mutually exclusive? It's a fad because it's fun, but it's not really useful.

i have the sony ericsson t300 in about feb or march and it came with a camera phone. i used it to take a pic of a recliner we were considering and sent the pics to someone to get their opinion. it really helped in that instance.

i haven't used it since.

To me it's an annoyance to have features that I won't use often and that add bulk to the device.
If I want a camera, I'll buy one aftermarket.

People love to categorize the latest craze as "fads" but this technological marvel (in a long line of them) is actually useful. Not in the sense that you're the normal Joe driving around town and doing your thing everyday. It's useful in the sense that it's a handy contraption small (and keyword: pervasive) enough to enable you to keep "in touch" (visually, in a way) with loved ones.

How is it a BAD thing? It's not. And how is it NOT practical ? What did you just give up ? Nothing.

Itll be useful only when they get serious about it.

I've got mp3 player, cell phone, pda and camera. All have a screen, all have some sort of processor, memory card etc. Its all so redundant.

I'm still waiting for them to properly put them all in the same device. That new phone by kyocera with the integrated palm is def on the right track, its just too damn expensive.

Handspring Treo came before that... I just wouldn't spend $400-$500 for one right now.

The new Sony Clie has a built-in 2MP digicam, MP3 player, Palm OS 5, etc. The only thing its missing is the cell phone. Now that I can sync up my phone's contact list to that on my computer, my PDA is used almost exclusively for games.

Seems like a nice feature for those times you don't have your camera with you, but overall I think I wouldn't get much use out of it.
