I am going to be heading off to college this fall, and my parents want a family cell phone plan where we will be getting three phones (1 for parents, 1 for sis, 1 for me) - I want to know what the best plan would be if my family lives in West Linn, OR 97068, and I am attending college in Durham, NC 27708. Basically I'm looking for the cheapest solution here, as my family doesn't exactly make much money... the deal was that I'd sell my car and my parents would get cell phones for me and my sis (since she won't be able to drive without the car). So any help would be appreciated, as I am a n00b when it comes to cell phones.

Cliff notes:
-n00b to cell phones
-heading off to college
-need family plan for ZIPs 97068(home) and 27708(college)
-needs to be as cheap as possible without sacrificing reliability
-your help would be much appreciated

I hope this is the right forum to ask this in... :p

See, tmobile seems to be a good provider, but there is no service for 27708 :(

Did you confirm that at a retail store? They have a service that shows you what areas have coverage and what areas don't.

Tmobile is confirmed no service to Duke University. Students there say that Verizon, Cingular, and Nextel work well... so far Nextel is looking best with no roaming charges on their service areas. I hate being an n00b when it comes to cells; I really don't want a crappy cell phone service with a year/2 year contract :(

I have this plan too...

Whichever carrier you use, I recommend buying from Amazon

Here's the info for their family plans

I have yet to find anyone reputable that consistently beats Amazon's deals
