Cell phone warranties at Best Buy -- void if you "drop" the phone

db

Lifer
If you call the 800 number re extended warranty on your cell phone, they will ask you if you have ever dropped it. If you have (apparently even onto a feather pillow), your warranty is *void*.
I can't imagine anybody not dropping a cell phone, given enough time....

So be advised.

Typically no extended warranties from retail stores cover accidental damage (drops, spills, etc...)

In the past, BB employees used to say that basically you could return it for *any* reason. Perhaps too many people did, and they're trying to cut that down....

i have insurance from my provider, i could run it over with my car and geta new one for a 50$ insurance deductable

If your TV fell off your entertainment center, would you expect them to honor the warranty on that?

It used to be that that was their big selling point. "We cover things that the manufacturer doesnt cover"

Damn, all this time I've been carrying my TV around in my hand!

Anyway, supposedly AT&T says that even if you drop your cell into a pool, they will replace on their extended warranty.

Well, if you wipe your hands after stuffing your face with greasy burgers, you won't have to worry about dropping your phone.

Well at CC we did cover things the manufacturer didn't... I.E. power surges, unlimited replacement of laptop batteries for the length of the extended warranty, etc...

In certain states however it is illegal for a non-insurance company to effectively sell you accidental damage insurance. Check out dell's site for instance, they offer Complete Care Accidental coverage on their systems, however if you look at the fine print its not available in FL and NY. (Due to state regulations on insurance companies).

And yes, people are correct above about cell phone companies... If you get the insurance through the cell provider directly, they will cover accidental damage. The reason? They use a seperate insurance company to insure the phone. Technically its not an extended warranty, its insurance. It carries a deductable as well.

it used to be 35 but it went up 🙁

assuming there's no physical evidence that you dropped it (like a dent)... how would they know you're lying when you just tell them u never dropped it ?

CompUSA's warranty will cover accidental damage. Yes I worked there, ano not they don't suck.

so go to hell

Best Buy does cover stuff the manfacturer's warranty doesn't cover. "Normal wear and tear, dust, heat and humidity" is what you should hear from every BB employee in addition to other specifics, like the battery for cellphones.

Actually, you're incorrect. The extended warranty only covers manufacture defects after the first year. You have to have insurance to cover dropped phones, lost, etc.
