Story, I worked at Circuit City for about 2 years, ending in 1999. While I was there I signed up for the employee plan...240 anytime, 500 weekend for $15 a month. Loving it, since I don't use my cell that often.

So I've been using the employee plan for over 3 years now while not employed there.

Just checked my voicemail and there's a message saying Sprint is doing an employee account audit and to call a number and give them my # and store location of where I work, and if I no longer work there, to call another # to switch over to a consumer account. And if I didn't call that my service would end May 15.

Dang. I was hoping I could use this plan until my 4 year old Samsung 8500 died, but its still kicking.

What do you think I should do?

So, what service do you use? And are you happy with it?

I love my T-Mobile phone and have no complaints about service anywhere I go. Don't know about coverage outside of Seattle, WA, Spokane, WA and Tampa Bay, Fl as those are the only places I have used my phone really, so YMMV. I also love my plan, a bit expensive, but for $40 I get nation roaming and long-distance (all T-Mobile plans have these) 600 anytime, free nights/weekends and 50 text messages.

I use sprintpcs, and I'm happy with it. They give a lot of features for free, and since I road trip a lot, the nationwide network bit is pretty cool. Also, for $5/month you can get pcs to pcs (exactly like mobile to mobile)...and as the person that I call the most also has pcs, I get unlimited daytime AND night/weekend minutes with her. Joyness.

I'd wait until they actually do something. As far as a cell phone service, it really depends on what is good in your area, because some work really well in some places but suck it up in others. Sprint is also known for their amazing "retention" plans for people who aren't under contract - when they try to transfer you to a consumer plan, you can then call them up and tell them your going to cancel and see what they offer. It probably won't be as cheap as $15 a month, but I know a bunch of people who have gotten really good deals on their cell phone bills from Sprint for $30/month.

if forced off the plan I do want to move away from Sprint. At my fiance's house I get no service, but do about a block away from there.

You might be able to keep that plan, or a somewhat similar one, along with your current number, through the "retention" department.

Call and tell them you want to cancel. They'll connect you to "cancellation", AKA retention, which is actually a sales department. Tell them that you're about to cancel, but you've had that plan for x years, and would like to keep it if there's any way you can, because otherwise, you'll "make do without a cell phone, since you can't get a plan that cheap these days." Or something like that.

They might be able to let you keep it, free and legit, and if they can, they will, as long as they're convinced that you had no idea you were violating their policy. (3 years is a long time, you assumed you were grandfathered in, right?;))

YMMV. If you can't keep that exact plan, they might be able to offer you a different plan for $15-25. Just be sure to ask for first incomming minute free, if you had it (you probably do), and nights/weekends that start at the same time as your current plan, so you don't lose them.

It's sure as heck worth a try. Let us know!

I've heard verizon's service coverage is pretty good, but it really depends on where you are. I would suggest the forums at www.howardchui.com to see if anyone there has any opinions as well. I myself use cingular, but that's just because it was the cheapest plan for me due to my discount through my school.

been on a verizon plan from work for the past 4 years and i've never dropped a call or gone somewhere, where i couldn't get signal (minnosta lakes region is a horrible place for cell phones and i have yet to have a problem there)
