Cell phone techsupport

I've got a new phone on it's way as I signed a two year contract but in the meantime I really need my current phone work long enough until I get the new phone in the mail.

About a month ago I began having issues where the phone wouldn't recognize that it has flipped open so that I could answer calls. I could use a fingernail or paper clip type object to mash the little rubber thing that is depressed when the phone is flipped shut. This progressivly got worse and worse until yesterday my phone was locked up so I took out the battery, put it back in and now it will NOT power back on. The keypad will light up for a few seconds and then go dark again. There is no response from the screen at all. I've taken the battery and the SIM card out several times also. Any idea what to try now? The cell phone is my only phone line as I have no land line.

Phone model: Motorola V551
